Nikon COOLPIX B500
Digital Camera Review
- 16 megapizels
- 40x optical zoom
- 80x digital zoom
- 3-inch tilt screen
The Nikon Coolpix B500 is 16 megapixels paired with a 40x optical zoom, with digital zoom extending to 80x. There’s no manual control and can’t shoot in raw format, so it’s a novice or travel camera. It does have some very nice quality of life features, such as a 3.0-inch tilting screen, which features a 921k-dot resolution, inbuilt Wi-Fi and Full HD video recording.
The Coolpix B500 is reasonably light, which is a double-edged sword, given that it allows one-handed shots, but may be more susceptible to shake.
It’s great for hiking, traveling, and on-the-go photography and it’s cheap enough you won’t worry about it breaking or breaking the bank.
This is a beginner to intermediate camera. If you’re looking for advanced features or you need the absolute best in photo quality, this is not the camera to go with (unless you use it as a travel/backup).
Overall, if your use case is a solid entry into higher quality digital cameras or you need a good backup/travel camera, we’d give it a 9.2/10. If you’re a seasoned pro, the rating falls to a 7/10.
